Representing District 44 In The North Dakota House

Priorities & opportunities

Karla Rose Hanson

Accessible

My goals every day are to be open-minded and accessible and to find common ground. I've built relationships with community and state leaders and other lawmakers to forge solutions on a range of issues.

Communication with constituents is very important to me. Along with my seatmates, I've held nearly 20 public forums in the district and sent out dozens of updates since being elected in November 2016.

As your representative, I am working to:

  • Fight for safe and healthy neighborhoods. This includes addressing the state’s shortage of mental health and addiction services, supporting criminal justice reforms that improve lives while saving money, and championing efforts to reduce gun violence. Access to affordable health care is an ongoing need. I will continue to stand up for people's reproductive rights. I was proud to sponsor successful legislation that helps more people with diabetes access life-saving continuous glucose monitors and legislation that directs more assistance to veterans who need glasses, dentures and hearing aids.

  • Advocate for an economy that works for everyone. Instead of tax breaks for out-of-state oil companies, I've prioritized property tax reform for you. I've advocated for investments in higher education, including safe buildings and competitive compensation, and co-sponsored a university research fund to diversify our economy. I also continue to champion a paid family leave policy so people don't have to choose between a paycheck and caring for a loved one, and I'm pushing for accessible and affordable childcare across our state.

  • Stand up for what's right. I've sponsored several bills that would provide greater transparency and accountability in government as well as a more responsive legislature.

Read news reports about these legislative priorities.
